Might work. Something like “The aim is NOT to convert your partner to your point-of-view, but to ….” and then state the aim in a neutral way. I suggest you watch the documentary “Brainwashing Stacey” about a British journalist who attends an anti-abortion summer camp for some insights that could help shape the language. (As an aside, I doubt that the average person is really thinking about whether they are trying to convert someone during a debate; I think the innate “urge to win” is probably a more common experience.)
