The flaw I see in this argument is the idea that there is one side to whom people matter, no matter what their beliefs, and the other side, where you matter only if the end game is to sway the belief of the other person. It comes from a very basic principle on which Christianity is based: proselytisation. It’s the notion of absolute truth and being good/saved/moral by adhering to that truth. So talking, whether IRL or via an app, only goes so far, and then will inevitably break down unless there is a “convert my opponent” option in the app. Having been raised in a peaceful but extreme version of this world, I can tell you the end game is ALWAYS conversion to their belief set. At the risk of oversimplification, it’s a religious mindset taken into the secular team. Your app would need to tackle that first, to keep people engage past round one.
